Editorial - Merry Christmas! These are VERY interesting times we live in. The most recent round of wealth "harvesting" by the large financial interests was the raid on what used to be the most sacrosanct basis of financial freedom - the right to own property - American Home equity. This "raid" precipitated an international finance crisis of historic proportions. Several years prior to that the harvesting mechanism was the stock market manipulation of the dot com era. But underlying these crises was a fundamental factor, the importance of which cannot be overemphasized. The responsibility that each of us share is worth considering. The raids would not have been successful if all of us really understood and applied finance and investment basics. And encouraged others to do the same. Ronald Reagan once said words to the effect that the 10 most feared words in America were: "We are from the government and we are here to help". So far the "help" during the latest financial crisis has benefited mainly the large financial interests and politicians and not at all the average taxpayer. What will be the form of the next "harvesting"? Have you ever heard the term "Cap and Trade" or "Carbon Tax". Do you know what these mean? What is the REAL financial agenda at the Global environmental conference now in progress in Copenhagen? Stay tuned to Competence News in 2010 and we will try to answer these and other questions you may have. We want to take this opportunity to thank our several hundred thousand course graduates in corporations large and small for their support during the 16 years we have been providing interactive finance and investment courses. All the best! Larry Byrnes Visit our sponsor financialcompetence.com provides a thorough understanding of the basics of business finance. What would you like us to communicate in 2010?
